Niger Police Caught a Nigerian With €4.6m (appr.N1bn) Cash at Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey

Following the anti-corruption campaign being waged by President Muhammadu Buhari, many traffickers are now diverting huge sums of money through neighbouring countries.

According recent report, a Nigerian carrying 4.6m Euros (N1.05bn) has been arrested by police in Niger Republic at the Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey, the capital of Niger, while trying to sneak away en route Dubai in the United Arab Emirate.

The Nigerien police have also expressed worries that there had been an upsurge in the number of Nigerians trafficking huge sums of money in cash through their borders and that of other neighbouring countries.

Although officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the allegation that the ministry is not aware of
any of such occurrences neither do they have a pre-knowledge of any Nigerian arrested in Niger.

The police in Niger are already working on the suspicion that the money traffickers have accomplices in the country.

The arrest of the Nigerian has been a big news item in the Nigerien newspapers and television stations.
