Obafemi Martins Back in Action, He Wins Goal Of The Week Award In USA Again

Seattle Sounders’ Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins, has defeated Spanish legend, David Villa, to win the MLS Goal of the week award.

The former Newcastle number 9, who only returned to action for the Major League Soccer side after two months on the sidelines due to injury, scored a brace in a 4-0 win over Orlando City.

According to African Football, it is one of those goals that has won AT&T Goal of the Week for Martins, the third time this season that the Nigerian has won the award.

His immense display of talent to down Orlando City’s defense won him 45.34 percent of the ballots, easily outpacing the rest of the field.

The percentage of the vote cast for the goal of the week award is presented below:


1. Obafemi Martins (SEA) – 45.34%
2. Nat Borchers (POR) – 21.97%
3. Pedro Morales (VAN) – 13.29%
4. Paulo Nagamura (SKC) – 10.21%
5. David Villa (NYC) – 9.19%

The striker was tipped by coach Sunday Oliseh to still make his team, having dropped the Super Eagles forward from his list for the Tanzania clash in Dar es salam.
