UK Government Classify Women With Genital Piercings As Victims of a Crime

If you reside in the UK and are thinking a a genital piercing, have a rethink because the U.K. government might label you the victim of a crime.

According to reports from Daily Mail, the National Health Service, the government-run health care service in the U.K., is classifying genital piercings as a form of female genital mutilation.
Thereby, considering genital piercings an abuse, even if the woman has consented to the piercing.

Daily Mail reports it this way;

"The rule applies to any woman who has her labia or clitoris pierced, no matter the reason. The person who did the piercing could even be accused of a crime, no matter if the woman was the one who wanted the piercing in the first place. The World Health Organization agrees with the ruling, saying piercing falls under the category.

"While there are challenges in this area and adult women may have genital piercings, in some communities girls are forced to have them," a health department spokesman said in a statement. "The World Health Organization has quite rightly defined this as a form of FGM."

And female genital mutilation is a serious problem, not just in the U.K. but around the world. The World Health Organization estimates that between 100 and 140 million women and girls are victims around the world. Female genital mutilation could include removing or repositioning the clitoris or labia, but also includes any other harmful procedures for non-medical purposes. Piercing falls under that category, though the context can sometimes be far different; female genital mutilation is typically performed on minors, who by default cannot consent.

According to Telegraph reports;

"But the ruling applies to both women and girls, and even women who consent. "We cannot tell communities in Sierra Leone and Somalia to stop a practice which is freely permitted on Harley Street," British lawmakers said in a report.

And this is just the beginning; according to the Telegraph, lawmakers also want to outlaw labiaplasty, a purely cosmetic procedure in which the labia are trimmed, and label it a "criminal offense."
